Last fall, York University welcomed the largest gift ever made by an alumnus in its history. Doug Bergeron, a York computer science alumnus, and his wife, Sandra, generously donated $10 million in support of the new Lassonde School of Engineering building at York. Now, we are celebrating the opening of the Bergeron Centre for Engineering Excellence, home to a new wave of engineers who will not only make a difference in the world, but who will change the world.

We are excited to introduce you to Doug in our cover story, Our Man in Silicon Valley. We are also proud to share with you many other impactful stories that have resulted from generous donations of all sizes. The philanthropic support of our alumni, donors, and friends totalled more than $35 million during the 2014-2015 fiscal year. This funding has enabled York to provide critical student financial support, advance innovative faculty research, enhance unique programming and learning experiences, and much more.
In case you missed it, our newly renamed School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design is embracing a bold new vision, we hosted the Toronto 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games at our new world-class stadium, and the province said “yes” to a new York campus in Markham Centre. In addition, we look forward to the completion of the Toronto-York Spadina Subway extension in 2017.
With many great things happening at York, we are deeply grateful for the support of our alumni, donors, and friends. With your help, we look forward to celebrating even more success stories with you in the coming year.
