In 1998, Toronto physician Dr. Woody Fisher donated 124-hectares of Costa Rican rainforest to York University. Our faculty and students, along with international partners, conduct valuable research at the site, now called Las Nubes, and work to protect the region’s biodiversity and promote sustainable development. The Fisher Fund for Neotropical Conservation continues to support the Las Nubes project and the Fisher Fund Wine Tasting and Auction is an important source of funding each year.
The Fisher Fund Wine Tasting and Auction is a major highlight of the year for York. Each spring, some of the finest vintages from around the world are auctioned off for a very good cause.
Thanks to the incredible support of many people, the wine auction has remained an important source of funding for ongoing research at the rainforest and raised more than $1.3 million since its inception. At the heart of the event are Dr. Woody Fisher and Valerie Grant, without whom the event would not be possible.
